How often should a motorcycle be serviced?
The general rule is to service your motorcycle every 6 months or 5,000–10,000 km, depending on the model, how often it’s ridden, and under what conditions. Regular servicing includes changing the oil, checking the brakes, inspecting the chain and tyres, replacing the spark plug, and assessing overall engine health.
What does a motorbike pink slip check involve?
In NSW, a pink slip (eSafety check) is required when renewing registration for a motorcycle that's more than 5 years old. During the inspection, a mechanic will check tyres, brakes, lights, suspension, steering, indicators, mirrors, and overall frame integrity.
They’ll also check for fluid leaks and chain wear and ensure the horn and speedometer function correctly.
Why is my motorcycle making a strange noise?
Clicking, knocking, or grinding sounds could signal problems with the engine, chain tension, brakes, or wheel bearings. A high-pitched whine might mean a slipping belt or worn bearings. Squealing when braking typically indicates worn brake pads or warped rotors.
Don’t ignore unusual sounds, as they often worsen over time and could lead to breakdowns.
